Gregory Sugnaux
Les Campagnes hallucinées

Editorial Design

On the occasion of Gregory Sugnaux’s solo exhibition at Wallriss art space in 2017, I collaborated with designer Clément Chavanne to create a publication that would reflect the unique atmosphere of the show. Rather than presenting the artworks in isolation, we chose to recontextualize them through a combination of in situ photography and poetic excerpts from Emile Verhaeren’s original book, which inspired the exhibition’s title.

To enhance the abstract dimension of Sugnaux’s work, we focused on close-up compositions that captured texture, color and gesture, while the poems were reinterpreted typographically using a concrete poetry approach — turning the text into visual form to echo the emotional and spatial tension of the exhibition.

The book was printed in risography using a two-color separation, lending the images a surreal and organic quality. This raw and tactile print process aligned perfectly with the artist’s visual language and the physicality of the space.
